Summary In a Lonely Place

Kovacs recruits an unlikely partner to watch his back during a banquet at the Bancroft home, where Ortega oversees the night's grisly entertainment.

Laurens Bancroft invites Kovacs to participate in a dinner party at his home since all the suspects of his murder will be there. Kristin Ortega is also invited by the millionaire. Kovacs hires Vernon to watch his back at Bancroft's house, promising that Poe will heal Lizzie. During the party, they learn how the futile upper class is entertained.

Tak as a boy reads a scary story to his sister. Patchwork Man is a Frankenstein type creature. The kids eavesdrop on adults fighting in the next room. Kovacs gets dressed, Poe brings an invitation. Poe says a drone somehow bypassed him and took video of his encounter with Miriam. Laurens Bancroft calls about the invitation. Kovacs asks Poe to learn psycho-surgery, which he uploads immediately.

Ortega sees Ms Prescott at the police station. Ortega has been requested by Bancroft to attend the party that night to officially witness the Organic Damage event.

Kovacs walks to Elliott's again. Kovacs offers psycho-surgery for Lizzie in return for help as his backup. They both go to the Raven Hotel to meet Poe. Poe has already assessed Lizzie and will start treatment. Elliott gives his consent. Kovacs wants some hardware.

Ortega asks Abboud about Marylou Henchy. She says the dead girl was thrown down from up high. Kristen thinks every VIP at the party will be suspects in Henchy's death.

Elliott and Kovacs go to an underground arms dealer. A fancy Ingram flechette gun is taken, as well as special knives. Kovacs recalls Quell's guidance to build a wolf pack, not act alone.

At the hotel Elliott watches transfixed on a monitor as Poe treats Lizzie. Kovacs reassures him, they plan for the party.

Kovacs gives a handgun to the guards and steps into an elegant party. Ortega arrives in a nice dress. Kovacs tells Miriam there was a spy-bot in their room last night, Elliott is there in tuxedo as a waiter. Ortega talks to Abboud remotely, then she goes to check the fighters, they are a married couple and will fight to the death, the loser gets a new sleeve.

Kovacs and Ortega have a short talk over champagne. Diners are served roast tiger. Kovacs cruises, makes eye contact with Elliott. Bancroft admits to using hookers but says he has never killed anyone. They talk about immortality, Kovacs doesn't like it. One of the other guests also comments how this group of Meths are all stuck with each other forever.

Kovacs continues to stroll around the mansion and finds a quiet corridor. He enters a room where Miriam is having sex with a male guard. She pauses the action but the woman is actually Naomi, the 12th daughter. She explains the family Will, kids will not inherit so no reason to kill their parents.

In the bar Kovacs stops Bancroft Jr. from insulting the Japanese guests. Two women approach Kovacs, they tell him how he was worth a large finders fee. A woman explains how she sleeved a man into a pet snake. Elliott takes out the video security guard. Bancroft highlights Kovacs as his special object.

The combat show starts, an aerial hand to hand fight. Blood spatters, Kovacs tries to stop it then is drawn in to fight them. Elliott downloads some data. Ortega shoots out the controls and the three fighters fall to the ground. The wife is distraught so Kovacs kills the husband and makes Bancroft give both fighters new sleeves.

Later Laurens tells Kovacs to stay away from his wife, they have a special 100 year relationship.

Elliott says he has the security cam video from the night Lizzie disappeared. Ortega is introduced to Elliott by Kovacs in the garden.

Kovacs goes to the whorehouse to see Anemone, she stabs him in the neck. Then is killed herself by the big bouncer. Kovacs is barely conscious and taken to a facility. A doctor inserts a large needle into his neck, fades to black.
